A Statement from the Department
Cathy David worked in the Sociology department for 20 years. She was a loved and cherished member of our family. She worked intimately and closely with her colleagues in the office, our faculty, and our graduate students. All of our graduate students, in fact, have stories to tell about the many times that Cathy came to their aid. She was a wonderful and strong person. We are shocked and confused at what happened, and are all in deep mourning. We appreciate the tremendous support that the College, our friends in other departments, and the grief counselors have shown us during this very difficult time. And we extend our deepest condolences to Cathy's family and friends.
Following the funeral service on Saturday March 31st, the department will begin plans for an Emory hosted Memorial Service to be held in May shortly after Commencement. Other plans are in process. If you would like to make donations to a trust fund for Dazja, Cathy's oldest granddaughter, please contact Maggie at maggie.stephens@emory.edu.
Again, thank you for your prayers and thoughts.
