Faculty News: Keyes
The Emory Sociology department is proud to announce that Corey Keyes, associate professor of sociology, will be keynoting a conference in Sydney, Australia this June titled "Happiness and its Causes." The two day conference will feature up to 50 leading minds from psychology, science, philosophy, and religion, including his Holiness the Dalai Lama. A faculty of expert speakers from Australia and overseas will explore the techniques for achieving peace and happiness at this ground breaking event -- the 2nd International Conference on Happiness & Its Causes.
Corey L M Keyes, PhD is a social psychologist receiving his doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is on the faculty of Emory University, holding dual appointments in the Departments of Sociology and in the Behavioral Sciences and Health Education of the Rollins School of Public Health and is an adjunct professor of Psychology. He was the co- chair of the historic First Summit of Positive Psychology held in 1999. Dr Keyes is a founding steering committee member of the interdisciplinary Society for the Study of Human Development. He has been a keynote at several conferences, most recently the First Positive Psychology Conference in 2006 in South Africa. His recent work includes edited volumes entitled Flourishing: Positive Psychology and the Life Well-Lived; Well-Being: Positive Development Through the Life-Course; and Women and Depression: A Handbook of Medical, Psychological and Social Perspectives.
He will also be giving a seminar, along with the UK Epidemiologist, Richard Wilkinson (author of "The Impact of Inequality: How To Make Sick Societies Healthier") in Glasgow (Scotland) on October 11, 2007 and will be meeting that week in Edinburgh with Scottish Executives in the HHS and Parliament to advise on issues of mental health promotion in Scotland.
